Didier Ghez: When and where were you born and what did you do before you joined Disney?
John Drury: I was born on Halloween in 1945 in Los Angeles and I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I was in active service with the Navy as a hospital corpsman before I came to work for WED. After two tours overseas, I was being discharged in December of 1966 in Long Beach and I remember vividly hearing on the radio that Walt Disney had died that day, December 15. I was married and had a two-year-old child, so I began to look for work in Los Angeles. My father was a commercial artist and I had grown up with his lessons and influence. After high school I attended the University of New Mexico for a year and studied graphic design and sociology. Mainly, I just had the experience from high school, summer jobs, and I had always drawn and designed. So I embarked on a job search in the field of commercial art.
