David Stollery
Dave Smith

Among many other roles for Disney, actor David Stollery played Marty in “The Mickey Mouse Club” TV show Spin and Marty.

David John Stollery, III, was born on January 18, 1941, in Los Angeles, California. In the early 1950s, he appeared in various television programs, including I Love Lucy, Dragnet, My Friend Irma, The Red Skelton Show, and The Ray Milland Show. Walt Disney spotted him in that latter program and the Disney Studio offered him the role of Marty. After Spin and Marty, David also appeared in numerous Disney movies and television programs in the 1950s, including Westward Ho, the Wagons! and Ten Who Dared.

As an adult, David became an industrial designer. This interview was transcribed by Kevin Carpenter.

Dave Smith: How did you get into it originally? Were you pushed into it by your parents or was this something that you wanted to do?

David Stollery: No, this was basically my parents. My mom and dad were very interested in the theater and they kind of started me in it. It was good for me, but it wasn’t something that I made as a choice as a child.

DS: You started very young, didn’t you?

DSt: Yeah. I think the first thing I did, as I remember, was a movie with Bing Crosby, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, and every once in a while I see that! It’s really strange, because that’s kind of a classic in its own right and they drudge it up and show it on Channel 13 at midnight every once in a while.
