[Michael Barrier] interviewed Ty Wong on January 13, 1979, at his home in Sunland, California—a lovely home, as [Michael Barrier] [remembers] it, not just Asian in character but with a refinement that testified that an artist lived there. In the interview, Wong spoke with an accent (he was a Chinese immigrant, born in Canton), but the transcript doesn’t reflect any of the broken English that turns up in quotations from later interviews. Perhaps [Michael Barrier] smoothed off those rough edges in transcribing, but there are no such lapses in the several letters [Michael Barrier] received from him. [Michael Barrier] sent Wong the transcript of the interview in 1982, and he returned it with no changes other than to correct one name.
