Dave Smith interviewed assistant director and writer Jack Bruner in 1972. He took the following notes. Jack Bruner first came to work at the Disney Studio on August 2, 1937. He had been to high school with Riley Thomson, a Disney artist, in Glendale, and was selling tires when Thomson persuaded him that he should get a job at the studio. To start with, Jack was given charge of the Traffic Department, taking over from Larry Lansburgh. In those days, Traffic was a much better stepping- stone to higher positions than it is today. Being older than most of the kids coming in (he was 29), he was put in charge. Within two to three months, he was promoted to assistant director in Ham Luske’s unit on Pinocchio. But, being the fourth assistant director, he was very down on the totem pole. [...]
