Disney’s effects animators are often overlooked when discussing the history of the studio. The little-known Jack Buckley is no exception.
Jack Howard Buckley was born in Fresno, California, on August 6, 1915. He joined the Disney studio on January 10, 1938, and started right away in the Effects Animation Department, probably working on Pinocchio as his first assignment. By the time of his retirement in 1977, he had handled thousands of animated effects for most of Disney’s animated features, shorts, and even 1950s commercials. He passed away on April 21, 1995, in Los Angeles.
This interview focuses on The Rescuers, a movie that was released less than a year later.
