John Canemaker, who interviewed Glen over the phone since Tarzan’s directing animator was working in Paris at the time, wrote the following introduction:
“Glen Keane, one of today’s finest character animators, brings to his work a subtlety and sensitivity that makes him a direct descendant of the legacy of Disney’s legendary Nine Old Men, some of whom were his personal mentors. As research for my 2001 Disney Editions book Walt Disney’s Nine Old Men and the Art of Animation, I phoned Keane in France where he was finishing his tenure at Disney’s Paris studio after completing Tarzan. His enthusiasm and love for animation and his mentors is contagious and, as I often do when transcribing an interview, I cut out many of my questions and comments in order to let Keane’s articulate words flow with minimal interruptions.”[…]
