Bob Thomas: How did you come to this place?
Bill Walsh: As you recall, there was a lady named Maggie Ettinger, and I worked for Maggie for years and years and years. We happened to have, at that time, [an act on radio] with Burns and Allen, Bergen and McCarthy, Fibber and Mollie, and so on and so forth. I used to write for some of them and I used to write magazine stories. After a while Bergen said, “Well, why don’t you do a couple of jokes now and then and make a few bucks?” Which was nice, and I said, “I would be glad to do that, sir.”
