A short time after I joined the Disney staff, in the spring of 1936, I met Walt in the hallway of the Studio. Disney paused for a moment, gave me a big grin and waved a finger at me. I stopped, puzzled. He walked on for a few steps, turned back and said, “I saw your cartoons in The Stag at Eve.” He waved his finger again. “Naughty, naughty.” He winked and walked away. The Stag at Eve was a book of cartoons on subjects considered “blue” in the thirties. The contributors were all New Yorker magazine cartoonists like myself. I had five full pages in the book.
