The two conferences that Jack Hannah organized at CalArts (where he was teaching at the time) with his former colleagues Milt Kahl and Ollie Johnston in the 1970s are fascinating, not only because they show two of the Nine Old Men speaking to an audience of fellow artists, but also because the very artists who attended those lectures are now among the most prominent names in the world of animation: John Lasseter, Brad Bird, John Musker, Nancy Beiman, . . . This is one of those rare occasions where we are allowed to actually witness the passing of the torch.
