Art Stevens was born May 1, 1915, in Roy, Montana. He began his career at Disney as a clean-up artist on Fantasia, working on the “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor,” “Pastoral Symphony,” “Nutcracker Suite,” and “A Night on Bald Mountain” segments of the movie. After working as an assistant, Stevens became a full-fledged character animator on Peter Pan, animating on 101 Dalmatians, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day, Robin Hood, Mary Poppins, and the underwater sequence in Bedknobs and Broomsticks, amongst other films. Stevens helped design and animate the title sequences for the Disney features Freaky Friday; No Deposit, No Return; The Strongest Man in the World, and The North Avenue Irregulars. He co-directed The Rescuers with Wolfgang Reitherman and John Lounsbery, and The Fox and the Hound with Ted Berman and Richard Rich. He retired from Disney in 1983. […]
