ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR and unusual exhibits at the New York World's Fair was made possible by a combination of precision welding and pipe bending.
It is the world's largest mobile, "The Tower of the Four Winds" created by Walt Disney. The spectacular steel structure weighs more than 200,000 lb, is 110 ft high, and has more than 100 multi-colored parts which constantly spin, revolve, and oscillate entirely by "breeze-power." Their perpetual motions symbolize the movements of happy children.
WED Enterprises, Inc., which designed the tower, made a paper pattern or template out of brown wrapping paper to simulate the arched steel piping that forms the main outer design. This template was given to Western Piping & Engineering Co., Los Angeles.
