In 1964, Walt Disney, along with a remarkable team of songwriters, actors, directors, artists, designers, and so many others on screen and behind the scenes, created and shared a film that was, and remains, practically perfect in every way. Mary Poppins Returns is a sequel to the original, timeless classic that comes at just the right time. This week, I sit down for one-on-one interviews with songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman, and Director Rob Marshall. We’ll discuss timing, history, legacy, characters, cast, music, message, and more. And as a special bonus, I’ll share a conversation between the Mary Poppins Returns songwriters, and Disney Legend Richard M. Sherman, as they discuss the challenges of writing the score for the sequel, Sherman’s songwriting process, and thoughts on Mark and Scott’s favorite songs form Mary Poppins Returns, “Where the Lost Things Go."
