In the fall of 1929 Harry Woodin, manager of the Fox Dome Theatre in Ocean Park, California, met with Walt Disney. The men discussed Woodins idea that movie theaters sponsor Mickey Mouse Clubs. Disney liked the idea and Woodin returned to Ocean Park to organize the very first Mickey Mouse Club.
Several months later Woodin joined the Disney organization to coordinate Mickey Mouse Clubs nationally throughout the United States. Because Woodin was constantly on the road meeting other theatre managers, Roy Disney assigned his personal secretary, Lucille Benedict, as Woodins assistant.
Woodin and Benedict developed a semi-monthly newsletter titled "The Official Bulletin of the Mickey Mouse Club." Published on the first and fifteenth of each month, the newsletter contained stories on other clubs and ads for Disney merchandise. The first issue was dated April 15, 1930.
