Walt Disney would have liked Alfred Sloan. And Billy Durant and Charles Kettering, and the thousands of other men and women who helped make General Motors the giant it is. They were dreamers in pinstripe suits who helped introduce the exciting concept of personal mobility.
Walt Disney was a dreamer, perhaps this century's greatest. He dreamed of a community of tomorrow where people lived and worked in a controlled environment. He called this dream world the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT).
Now, Disney's greatest dream has come true. Epcot Center — a showcase of technology and innovation that encompasses many of Disney's ideas for EPCOT — is open to the public. General Motors is a part of Epcot Center as the sponsor of the transportation pavilion, "World of Motion."
GM's "World of Motion" exhibit tells the compelling and provocative story of man's transportation progress through the ages and tells it with humor. The exhibit also examines the future with an over-the-shoulder look at new technologies and emerging designs so closely associated with GM innovation.
The GM/Disney association began in the summer of 1977 when executives of Walt Disney Enterprises met with senior officials of General Motors to discuss a new attraction they planned for the popular Disney theme park, Walt Disney World, and to solicit GM's participation.
