For more than 45 years, Floyd Gottfredson ghosted the Mickey Mouse daily comic strip (the strip always bore Walt Disney’s signature, never Gottfredson's). Only now, since his retirement in 1975, has Gottfredson begun to receive acclaim for one of the most remarkable careers in comics. In this interview, Tom Andrae talks with Gottfredson about his life and work.
Andrae: Where did you grow up?
Gottfredson: I was born May 5, 1985 in (believe it or not) a railroad station in Kaysville, Utah. My grandad was a station agent on a branch line of the Dem Railroad. He and my grandmother lived in the station. I was raised in a small town - Sigurd, Utah, 180 miles south of Salt Lake City.
