A Preview of Pinocchio By Walt Disney

WE OPEN on Jiminy Cricket seated on a stack of books. He is singing "When You Wish Upon A Star." At the conclusion of the song he introduces himself and starts to tell the story of Pinocchio . . . "which is a story about a wish coming true." The Cricket explains that one night, years ago, he came into a quaint little village, bathed in starlight. In wandering through the narrow, crooked streets, he happened to see the cheery lighted house of a woodcarver named Geppetto The camera TRUCKS UP to the window as the Cricket talks. Inside Geppettos shop a fire is burning brightly on the hearth, a kettle is simmering gently on a crane over the fire, and in the irregular light cast by the flames, we see that the shelves and tables in the room are filled with carved wooden toys and ingenious clocks and music boxes, all created by old Geppetto.

Jiminy decides that this is just the place for him He sneaks in and scoots across the room to the hearth As he turns his back on the fire, the camera PANS AROUND and we see a LONG SHOT of a wooden marionette sitting on a work bench. Jiminy is curious. He immediately hops upon the bench and inspects the puppet, commenting favorably on it looks, and workmanship.

Old Geppetto enters the room with a can of paint Jiminy hides and watches the old man as he resumes his work of putting the finishing touches on the little wooden boy.
