1955 reality stops 22 miles outside of Los Angeles at Anaheim, where a world of fun is being built the ingredients of space ships, horse-drawn street cars, a flying elephant, Alice in Wonderland, a Mississippi steamboat, frontiersmen an a Tahitian village. And that's only the beginning! Who but Walt Disney could create such an imaginative mixture – and turn it into fabulous family entzetrtaintment...
At the entrance to Disneyland, you step into the nostalgia of an old-time American village. After a sarsaparilla at the old-fashione ice cream parlor, you are ready for your play-tour of the dazzling 160-acre, $10,000,000 Disneyland.
You'll go first to Tomorrowland, for a glimpse of what's in store for us in futuristic design, travel and science. If you're adventurous, you'll board a passenger rocket for a "round trip to the moon"...or guide your own streamlined speedboat... see the helioport in action.
Then, hop into wonderful, gay Holiday Land – with its baseball diamond, picnic area, bandstand, dance floor...equipped with everything imaginable for group fun any time of year. Summer might find it the headquarters for a one-ring circus. Winter could bring ice pageants or a Santa Claus Lane.
Fairy tales come to life in the shimmering, pastel-colored castle that presides over the entrance to Fantasyland. Skip down the rabbit hole with Alice, laugh at yourself in her topsy-turvy looking glass world try a thrilling aerial ride on Dumbo, the Flying Elephant – eet dozens of other Disney cartoon characters.
Next, there's Frontierland, where you'll board an old paddle wheeler for a river gambler's excursion to New Orleans, Natchez and Mobile. Or maybe you'll bag yourself a buffalo at the shooting gallery if you're not nervous from the leather-stockinged frontiersmen and Indians standing around.
A glittering end to this journey is a visit to Adventureland-wonderworld of nature, with its entrance through a lush Tahitian village. A boat trip in tropical waters is offered – glimpses of exotic birds and flowers along the way to ports of call in Mexico, Africa, Asia and Central America.
When Disneyland opens late this summer, more than 15,000 visitors are expected every day to enjoy the wonder of what Walt Disney calls, "a fabulous playground, a fair, a city from the Arabian Nights, a metropolis of the future, a Showplace of magic and living facts!"
