Disney's Peter Pan's Flight
When Walt Disney's theme park experiment, Disneyland, opened in 1955 it did so with Fantasyland as its foundation. Early guests soon became familiar with Tomorrowland and the Magic Kingdom's other realms, but it was the promise of reliving moments from Disney's animated films that first brought people to Disneyland. Walt said, "Fantasyland is the world of imagination, hopes, and dreams. It is dedicated to the young and the young in heart ... to those who believe that when you wish upon a star, your dreams come true. Come with me to King Arthur's Carousel, to see an elephant fly, to dig for diamonds in the Dwarfs mine, and to ride a pirate ship through the sky..." In Fantasyland, Walt created forms of entertainment to insure these dreams would come true for his guests. The Peter Pan dark ride might be his best example of this. […]
