In 1943, the Walt Disney Studios under the auspices of The Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs was commissioned to produce a film originally titled The Mosquito and Malaria that was later renamed The Winged Scourge. It was designed as a public service educational film related to curbing the Anopheles mosquito and the spread of malaria. This was made as part of the good neighbor efforts by the U.S. government implemented to combat Axis influence in Latin America.
