Disney open their newly revamped FANTASIA 2000 at selected IMAX theatres nation-wide on January 1, 2000. Some of the most famous vignettes from the original have been deleted to make way for the seven new egments. "The most difficult for me was to lose the whole 'Night on Bald Mountain scene," admitted Roy E. Disney, Walt's nephew who heads the studio' animation department." It's just such a classic piece of animation. To see that go was tough. But, the only way that you could use that piece was at the end. We tried it once, actually, in the middle, without Ave Maria. It doesn't work. Anyone who has seen the movie would have just fell cheated. It's interesting, because the film has changed. I've gone forever saying that nothing has changed. But the cutting and the pacing of what we do today is just so much faster."
