Anaheim, Cal., May 27 – A new passenger carrying monorail train, winding thru Disneyland and connecting the amusement realm with the Disneyland hotel, was given a preview exhibition and operation for newspaper men. The round trip, of nearly 2 1/2 miles above park and highway traffic, was noiseless and rapid – and exhilarating.
The system will be opened for the public June 11. It is an extension of a three quarters of a mile monorail which had been in use at Disneyland for two years and was shut down several months ago so that the entire facility could be completed. The short line had carried 4,370,000 passengers more than 60,000 miles without any accident or injury and was one of the most popular attractions in the park.
3.3 Million Dollars
Following the newspaper men's ride, they were told by Walt Disney and his aids that the total cost of the monorail was 3.3 million dollars and that it should demonstrate the feasibility of such a form of rapid transportation for large cities.
