GM first U.S. corp. in Disney's EPCOT

Walt Disney Productions and General Motors have announced the signing of an agreement for GM's participation in Disney's EPCOT (Experimental Community of Tomorrow) Center to be constructed at Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

General Motors, the first U.S. corporation to commit to the EPCOT project, will be the sole sponsor of the Transportation Pavilion located in the "Future World" area of EPCOT Center.

This pavilion, along with seven other major EPCOT "Future World" presentations, will introduce a new dimension in Disney-conceived and designed attractions, according to Disney officials.

Members of General Motors staff will work with WED Enterprises in Glendale, Calif., to coordinate concepts and provide input relating to the Transportation Pavilion, as well as those areas designed for showcasing General Motors products.

Additionally, the contract provides for General Motors' participation as a sponsor of a 12-hour network television package of EPCOT specials, as well as a participant in a major EPCOT oriented program of educational media.

The agreement was executed by Roger B. Smith, executive vice president of General Motors Corp. and E. Cardon Walker, president of Walt Disney Productions.

"We are extremely proud and honored to welcome General Motors as a major participant in EPCOT Center. General Motors' is recognized around the world and I believe the confidence they have shown in our company and in our ability to do this project by being the first to commit provides the necessary impetus to assure success of EPCOT Walt Disney's greatest dream."
